Dali Clocks, Morphing Balls, and SVG Generators

Howdy, partner! Last week’s issue got sent to a lot of spam folders, so check that one out for some wonderful news.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and didn’t look any gift-horses in the mouth, as they say.

I hope you had an excellent year despite the constant chaos of the world. If not, I hope 2022 is a hard upswing for all of us.

It’s been an incredible year over at Frontend Horse! We started a Twitch channel, a YouTube channel, a Discord, and most of all a community that came together to do some wonderful things.

Next year we’ll probably buy a horse ranch and declare statehood. The future is a mystery!

Inspiration

Fluid Dali Clocks Fluid Dali Clockscodepen.io

This pen seems straightforward until you click ‘Visit the work’ and the effect kicks in. By using SVG filters, Shirasawa gives the clock images an animated, Salvador Dali style.

Morphing Turbulence Ball Morphing Turbulence Ballcodepen.io

File this one under ‘super satisfying’, as the ball goes from a smooth ball of goo, to a spiky Koosh ball, and back again. It’s a really nice pen from Daniel Hult, who also created a similar effect here.

Resources

fffuel - SVG Generators fffuel - SVG Generatorsfffuel.co

You get some really gorgeous results from this collection of generators. There are generators for patterns, blobs, gradients, noise, and lots more.

My favorite bit is how many are inspired by our friend George Francis, and even use his Utils library! Always nice to see brilliant ideas ripple out into the community.

Patterns.dev - Free E-Book Patterns.dev - Free E-Bookwww.patterns.dev

A free 435+ page book on JavaScript design and performance patterns by Lydia Hallie and Addy Osmani.

So long, partner

That’s it for this week!

I can’t thank you enough for riding on the web dev trail with me each week. Just the fact that you’re reading this means a ton.

What kinds of things are you learning in the New Year? Any resolutions or new things you want to try? Reply and let me know, I’d love to hear from you.

Your neigh-bor,

Alex
